Discovering Your Ultimate Life Purpose 2

Discovering Your Purpose

The single most important element of your identity is to discover your ultimate purpose in life. It will fulfil the search for meaning in life in everyone’s hearts.

No matter how old are you, research has shown that discovering purpose in life would bring happiness, satisfaction and most importantly it would give us a focus in life.

It is also proven that a strong sense of direction in life increases life expectancy as much as seven years!

So, the million dollar question here is, how?

Experimentation

Throw yourself into situations which are out of your comfort zone and try out various activities that interest you! You could crash on other people’s couches, jump across swamps or sky diving!

Some examples which are less extreme and more realistic include participating in various clubs, volunteering opportunities or even competitions.

Trying out these activities may provoke anxiety in you, but it would bring you the adrenaline rush which makes you feel alive again! So, set aside a few hours or eve one day to try out something new every week. For example, you can try rock climbing or even watch plays which you never watched before.

Reflection

Set aside some time to think and write about yourself daily, preferably in a journal. This will help you think clearer and manage your emotions better.

The collective benefits of writing and reflecting are well-documented. It helps us to be more conscious of the things we do every day which helps ourselves to discover our strengths, weaknesses and habits. It is even integrated in some psychotherapy practices. It helps you to make sense of what you are going through and can be very therapeutic!

If you do not have the time to keep up with lengthy journal entries, you can spend five minutes before bedtime to write a short daily reflection or you could note down one fascinating observation you had during the day.
